There was a total eclipse of the sun today in Ghana. It was visible from Accra, but we decided to go up to Lake Volta where the totality was longer and the wide open expanses of the lake made for dramatic viewing of the shadows caused by the sun's disappearance.

Well T and the girls had a more interesting weekend. On Saturday they went on an adventure and H found herself in this picnic spot in the middle of nowhere. Not to worry - she brought her own chair!

It's been pretty quiet in Accra. T has not had to travel much although there have been a slew of generals coming to visit (as well as other folks). We haven't gotten out much - but are planning to travel out of town next week for the solar eclipse (Wednesday 29 March). There will be full eclipse here in Accra, but it will be longer if we travel just north of here - so adventuring we go. T had the girls out on a scouting mission on Saturday to find just the right spot - with even a rickety bridge to cross to get there. Watch this space for the photos.

H's teeth continue to grow. She is now eating some foods on her own (cheese, bread, noodles, shoes) - oops - which one of those food groups was not recommended by Dr Spock?

M shows us how school works. While waiting for H's stomach to cope with bumpy winding roads - we stopped at a school. This was actually a pretty nice school by Ghanaian village standards - but there was hardly anything in it. Benches, a blackboard, a few ripped papers with part of the alphabet on the wall. It makes you truly thankful for education in the States. We are very fortunate to have the public school system that we have. That said - M was happy to attend this school - when she becomes a "big girl." I guess its all what you know.

The family went on an offroad adventure today. We were supposed to go far, far away - but after H yakked about an hour into the trip - we cut the trip short. We stopped at a school and rested for a while while wondering where T and J had gotten to on the motorbikes. The girls took the opportunity to go for a drive of their own.

Giant Mushrooms found!

We had one day of rain last week after 4 months without rain. Pouring, soaking rain. The lawn started to green up and things started to look tropical rather than desert like. An unexpected visitor were these giant mushrooms that came in with some of the new dirt brought in for the grass that was seeded back in October last year.
